Samuel Dennis

Samuel Dennis Jr, PhD, ASLA, is a professor in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the founding director of the Environmental Design Lab. His research focuses broadly on nature, health, and environmental design. Dr. Dennis partners with communities to co-create healthy green spaces accessible to everyone. The Environmental Design Lab supports community efforts to address health inequities and health disparities related to the built environment using a variety of participatory methods. Dr. Dennis has taught international field courses focused on health and place in Honduras, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.

Dr. Dennis received his MS and PhD in geography from Penn State University and his MLA (landscape architecture) from North Carolina State University. He is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and previously practiced landscape architecture in North Carolina.
